Goal: $30,000.00
Specific Need
The expansion and remodel project for the current library building has been divided into phases. Phase I is dedicated to the improvement of the Young People's Department, and this includes the addition of an outdoor activity area that will be located on the southeast side of the building. Our architects have estimated the cost for this area at approximately $80,000 and we already have a $50,000 gift through a grant administered by Live Well Geary County. Achieving this Match Day Goal will complete the funding needed for this portion of Phase I.
Mission
The purpose of the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library Foundation is to raise awareness of the services and benefits of the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library, organize persons who are interested in promoting and maintaining the use and wellbeing of the library , and to raise funds to support the library for the expansion of collections, services, and facilities.
Profile
The library is an active place with a vibrant service that is utilized by all members of the community, particularly families. Literacy-based, informational and recreational programs are provided for all ages in the Young People's Department.
An expanded youth department would add and improve a number of family services including:
- Outdoor program space where kids can be active and messy with movement, play, craft and art programs, particularly those that involve glue, glitter, paint, dye and other substances that make custodians cringe.
- Additional space for kids overall including collections and room to fidget, play and lay on the floor while they read.
- Children's activity room that will hold most of the department's regular programming such as: Storytime, Mini and Me, Musical Monday, Library Learning for Homeschool Families, S.T.E.M., Crafty Corner, Movie Night, and special classes. This addition will also make the other meeting space more available to more people.
- Mother's restroom where moms can nurse, change diapers, and still watch over their young children.
- Movement of the Young Adult collection to its own area in the main library and the addition of a room dedicated specifically to older kids and the programs and projects appropriate for their age.
- Staff workroom for the Young People's staff so they can work on their program, display, etc. projects from beginning to end.
- Improvements in infrastructure (windows, doorways, etc.) to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating cost. Less overhead means more dollars for programs, resources and services.
