Goal: $30,000.00
Specific Need
Hunger in Geary County
- According to Feeding America (2023), 6,480 individuals in Geary County are food insecure — that is 18.1% of the county's population, making us one of the most food-insecure counties in Kansas.
- Even more concerning, Geary County has the highest child food insecurity rate in Kansas, with 3,400 children (30% of the county’s youth) lacking reliable access to food.
The Unmet Need
- We are not currently reaching most food-insecure individuals in our county.
- Approximately 48% of food-insecure households earn just above the SNAP eligibility threshold, leaving them unsupported by federal food assistance. Changes in federal policy threaten to reduce these essential supports, potentially worsening hunger in our community.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Since the completion of our new facility, 95% of all donations go directly to feeding our neighbors in need. The remaining 5% covers essential operational costs, including utilities, insurance, and two part-time staff salaries. We do not use donor funds for advertising or fundraising.
Mission
Our Mission
To provide those in need with emergency food by working together with community members, leaders, and local businesses to gather, store, and distribute goods. We offer compassionate help while respecting the dignity of each person we serve, and we work to inform and educate our community about the issue of hunger in Geary County.
Funds raised through Geary Community Match Day will be used to support this mission.
